Old Glory dedicated at Kasson Library

When the new Kasson Library was built a couple of years ago, there was no doubt that it was a state of the art building and library.
But something was missing. Flags.
That’s why about a year and a half ago members of the VFW and Lions approached Art Tiff, the library’s director, about getting flags installed.
Last Friday during a cold Minnesota day, those flags and flagpoles were dedicated with about 50 people gathered to the library for the ceremony.
Tiff explained that the VFW, Lions club and anonymous donors were able to get the flags and poles for the library.
In the beginning of October, members of the Kasson community helped with the raising of the flag poles, which included manual labor in order for them to be installed.
One of the people who helped with the labor was Ryan Berghuis, who thanked Kasson- Hardware Hank for providing the crew with a discount on rental equipment so they didn’t have to dig the holes by hand.
During his speech, Berghuis, who represented the Lions Club, explained
that the project is special to him as he served in the Army and his son is
now enlisted with the National Guard and went to basic training this past summer.
“I want to thank everyone who helped make this project happen,” Berghuis said, “This project is near and dear to my heart,” he added.
During his speech at the dedication ceremony, Tiff explained that when people see the flags they think of all the different freedoms we are given because of it.
He pointed out in particular one of those important freedoms.
“One of the best freedoms is the freedom to read,” Tiff said. “This is a great place for that,” he added.
He also thanked everyone for that helped with being able to obtain the flags that proudly wave high outside the Kasson Library now.
“Those flags you see outside are here because of th se people that helped,” Tiff said.
