Zac Plein was a member of Kasson-Mantorville High School’s Students Against Destructive Decisions group, not so long ago.
He was on the other side Dec. 19 at his place of employment, the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office in Mantorville.

You could hear them from the parking lot, Kasson-Mantorville Elementary School students singing and laughing on Dec. 22, the last day of school before Christmas break.

The streak is over. The Medford boys basketball team ended a 29-game losing streak at home with a 60-58 victory over Kenyon-Wanamingo (1-10) on Thursday.
Previous to Thursday, The Tigers' (1-4) last win was Feb. 16, 2016 against Kenyon-Wanamingo.

It's been unbearably cold for the past few days. Just thinking about earlier last week and how it was in the 50's makes it feel like a completly different lifetime.
Usually I’m not one to complain about the cold, as it never really bothers me. What bothers me about this unwelcomed cold, though, is the fact that there is next to no snow on the ground. 

Manny and Delia Guajardo hoped to assist 100 children with sweet deals on toys and clothes during the Christmas for Children Drive at their store, Sophia’s Thrift Store and Clothing Bank in Kasson.
“It’s not going to happen,” Manny said.
That’s because the number jumped to nearly 140 kids. And Manny expects it will hit 200.

I don’t know how many times I’ve heard the phrase, “It’s just a number,” over the past few weeks.
The unthinkable happened to me a week ago. I turned 50 years old on Dec. 12.
As my family and friends celebrated the grand occasion with me, they kept reminding me that I shouldn’t worry about turning 50 because, well, “it’s just a number.” All the while I kept thinking, “But, it’s such a big one.” 

Back at the beginning of the winter season, Kasson-Mantorville Jamie Heidt was asked if there was one wrestler that stood out in his mind that stood out in his mind. The KoMets have been loaded with talent over the years and along with the usual suspects, there always seems to be one wrestler that comes into his own and surges to the front of the pack.

Carter Wyttenbach echoed the thoughts of fellow Kasson-Mantorville High School students gathered Dec. 13 in the school’s north gym.
You had to try and weave a pedal cart between pylons and shoot baskets while wearing impaired driving goggles.
Good luck with that.
“It’s weird. You can’t see anything,” said Wyttenbach, a freshman. “Then you think you made the turn, and you didn’t. Cool experience.”

The NRHEG girls’ basketball team capped off a good week with a second win, this time a prolific 74-64 victory over Kenyon-Wanamingo at New Richland Thursday, Dec. 14. The non-conference win upped the Panther record to 4-1 for the young season.
