K-M girls golf takes Triton Invite title

With the ability to get a meet out of the way, the Kasson- Mantorville girls golf team had the chance to work out some kinks heading into the Triton Invite on April 30. With the jitters of being cooped up inside beginning to dissolve, the KoMets battled through windy conditions to pick up their first team title of the season at the Dodge Country Club.

A hidden treasure leaves behind a great legacy

One of the hidden treasures in my hometown of Brownton that has always had a lasting impression on me turned out to be an icon in community journalism across Minnesota for decades. I was fortunate enough to get my start in the newspaper industry back in the early 1980s under Chuck Warner, the long-time publisher of the Brownton Bulletin and many other newspapers across the state.

Albright inducted into Lions Hall of Fame

Ron Albright of the Kasson-Mantorville Lions Club was inducted into the Lions MD5M Hall of Fame at its convention in Winnipeg, Canada on April 14. MD5M is a multiple district, which includes all the Lions of Minnesota, Manitoba and NW Ontario. Each of the 12 districts in the multiple is allowed to submit one person for induction each year.

‘Grandma’s house’ daycare

Even though she’s a licensed daycare provider, Lois Lepp strives to provide a setting not typically found in most daycares.
“My philosophy is to be providing an atmosphere of going to grandma’s house,” said Lepp, who has been doing daycare for 30 years in her Dodge Center home. She prides herself on having a “calm atmosphere” for the children in

Becoming a better leader

I recently had the opportunity to attend the 2018 Hendrickson Forum in Minneapolis.
The keynote speaker at the forum was Jackie Freiberg, an international best-selling author, who shared some unconventional, business-best practices of global leaders.
Even though her advice was geared towards business leaders, I believe we can apply it to our own lives and become better leaders in whatever goal we’re pursuing.

Battling sex abuse makes this survivor stand out

It was nearly 30 years ago when Annie Anderson felt like she died. She really didn’t, but what she experienced that night has set off years of torture and torment mentally, physically and psychologically.

For KoMets, there’s no place like home

The long winter has made opening day a distant dream for the Kasson-Mantorville softball team as it eagerly awaited to break in its newly remodeled digs. With a new crow’s nest towering above home plate, the KoMets were eager to make their 2018 debut at home, but had to wait a little bit longer after the field was deemed not ready for play prior to their proposed opener with Stewartville on on April 23.

KoMets get back on the green

The Kasson-Mantorville golf team has been waiting forever to get their season underway. With golf being the most weather-dependent sport of the season, the KoMets patiently waited for seven weeks as the snow melted and the courses dried out.

Saturday’s 5K raises money for Early Childhood scholarships

Even though there was less sun and more snow than last year, nearly 200 people gathered at the K-M Community Education building on Saturday morning to raise funds for Early Childhood Education scholarships.
According to Jenny Carrier, Director of K-M Community Education, it was “a great turnout. It’s so wonderful to see families come out to support early childhood in our community.”
