Rome wasn’t built in a day, and neither was Lions Park in Kasson, but this past Thursday the park moved one step closer to its ultimate design when the new shelter was dedicated by the Kasson-Mantorville Lions and Kasson Parks and Recreation Director Ron Unger.
The shelter was a substantial undertaking because it involved cement, electrical, 12 picnic tables, a serving bench, and the building itself.

Despite a Supreme Court ruling allowing cameras in Minnesota courtrooms for certain court proceedings, a Dodge County judge is not allowing cameras for the upcoming sentencing of a man who killed a school teacher and her daughter in a distracted driving crash.
Judge Jodi Williamson has ruled that media organizations will not be permitted to record or photograph during the Nov. 6 sentencing for Tanner Kruckeberg of Dodge Center.

On a cold windy and snowy Saturday morning, Adam Krakora provided most of the heat as he scored twice and provided an assist as Byron beat Dover-Eyota 4-0 to advance to the semifinals Tuesday in Austin. 
Byron Head Coach Dave Bahr said the scoring got started when Krakora hustled at the D-E goalkeeper Anthony Swenson who rushed a clearing kick right into Krakora that bounced off him into the net. 

After two straight losses, the Triton Cobras got back in the win column by beating the Plainview-Elgin-Millville Bulldogs 35-14 on Friday, Oct. 11.
            Triton Head Coach Mike Ellingson said the Cobras getting off to a good start was key to their win.

Something had to give when the 4-2 Kasson-Mantorville KoMets went on the road to take on the 4-2 Mankato West Scarlets.
            However, after a back-and-forth game, it was the Scarlets who came away with a 37-27 win.
            Kasson-Mantorville Interim Head Coach Joel Swanson was proud of how his team played against a tough Mankato West team.

The Hayfield Vikings outscored the Lewiston-Altura Cardinals 12-7 in the fourth quarter, but it was too little, too late as the Cardinals won the first three quarters to beat the Vikings 33-18 on Friday, Oct. 11.
Hayfield Head Coach Jeff Snider was pleased with how his team, especially his defense, played in the first quarter.

As the editor of a local community newspaper, it’s common to field lots of questions throughout the week from various people regarding different aspects of the newspaper.

On Nov. 5, the Triton school district will be asking voters to approve a property tax levy that will raise an additional $750 per pupil.
The district has been trying to get a levy approved for three years and for many voters the biggest question is still why does the district need to raise taxes to fund the school? We already pay taxes for the school and the state pays for each student so why isn’t that enough?
