I was desperate for a salesperson, and we only had one applicant. In talking with his references, there was hesitation as they made benign comments. I could tell there were things they avoided saying. I hired him anyway. We soon discovered he was misleading customers. I talked to him, “Dude, (not his real name) honesty is really important to us…” His (eyeroll) response, “Okaaaay…” was not reassuring.

A year ago, Kristina Wright-Peterson, the executive director of Seasons Hospice in Rochester, was sitting on the shore in Two Harbors when she received an email from a stranger named Pat Buretta.

Samantha (McCamy) Thurman has taken over the head coaching position for the Hayfield Vikings volleyball program. Thurman is a 2007 graduate of Hayfield, earning eight varsity letters in volleyball, basketball, and golf during her time as a Viking. After high school, she played four years of basketball at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa.

The Kasson-Mantorville and Byron Volleyball teams faced off last week, in a matchup featuring two teams expected to go far into the playoffs this year.
Earlier on K-M took the lead winning the first set, before Byron pulled off the nail-biter in the second set. K-M would regain the lead winning 26-24 in set three, but Byron would have the last laugh.

Despite “sweltering temperatures,” Hayfield Cross Country Head Coach Kelli Schmeling said she thinks her team did well.
“We’ve been battling some illnesses so some members of the team were absent,” she said, noting she hopes her team will be back to full strength this week.
Schmeling noted that due to the temperature, the meet was shortened from a 3.1 mile race to a 2 mile race.
