Sara Stucky Participates In Miss Minnesota Contest
Sara Stucky, a 1973 graduate of Kasson-Mantorville High School, was one of 42 girls who competed in the Miss Minnesota contest in Austin last week. She is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. M. L. Stucky of Kasson. Miss Stucky went to Austin on Tuesday and returned home after the pageant Saturday evening. On Wednesday afternoon she took part in a bicycle parade and that evening participated in the evening gown competition. On Thursday evening was the talent competition when she sang and played the guitar. On Friday evening Sara also participated in the swim suit competition and in the pageant on Saturday evening when Joleen Benoit, Miss Shakoppe, was crowned Miss Minnesota. Miss Stucky was sponsored by the KM Jaycees in the Miss Minnesota contest.

Local sheriff announces magazine advertising effort
Sheriff Weber announced plans for the “Minnesota Sheriff” advertising sales campaign. The purpose of the Minnesota State Sheriff’s Association is to provide better education and training for the law enforcement personnel and to educate the general public in crime prevention and public safety methods. One of the ongoing special projects instituted and administered by the Sheriffs’ Association is the distribution of safety publications to Minnesota’s school age children to educate them on how to avoid danger, both at home and in school. Another venture which demonstrates the Sheriff’s dedication and concern toward the youth in this state is the Minnesota Sheriffs ranches for underprivileged children. The Minnesota State Sheriff’s Association was instrumental in the development of the ranches — which are now part of the Sheriffs Youth Programs — and the Association regularly contributes financial assistance to the ranches. All of these activities and more are made possible through advertising sales in “Minnesota Sheriff.”

Fire Department cleans up chemical spill
Members of the Kasson Volunteer Fire Department cleaned up a chemical spill last Thursday morning before the product could drain into the sanitary sewer system. The spill took place coming around the curve toward the Greenway Elevator on West Veterans Memorial Highway in Kasson. A Greenway truck rounding the curve had an unrestrained poly tank fall off, which leaked a petroleum product called pentanes. The driver was unaware the tank had not been strapped down when he left. Police and the fire department were called in to deal with the spill. A floor dry product was poured on the chemical to keep it from spreading. The product was contained and there were no further repercussions from the spill.

Kasson-Mantorville softball athletes named to All-Tournament Team
Wells Fargo, the premier corporate sponsor of the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL), has announced that Maddie Damon and Aylisha McClaflin of Kasson-Mantorville High School have been named recipients of this year’s Wells Fargo All-Tournament Team award for Class AA Softball. The award recognizes student athletes who demonstrate exceptional sportsmanship, team commitment, athletic ability and leadership during the state high school tournaments. Athletes are selected to the Wells Fargo All-Tournament Team by a panel of coaches attending the tournament. Ten awards are presented in Class AA Softball. Wells Fargo is the premier corporate sponsor of the MSHSL. This sponsorship helps offset the costs associated with tournaments and fine arts events for Minnesota students. It also supports programs such as the MSHSL High School Hall of Fame, along with the Challenge Cup, a program which selects the best Minnesota schools in Class A and Class AA for athletic and fine arts competitions.
