Vintage Base Ball Coming to School House Fall Festival
The Rochester Roosters Base Ball Club has challenged West Concord residents to a game of Base Ball.
That’s right, Base Ball, as baseball was known in 1860. The match will take place at West Concord’s ball field on September18, at the Schoolhouse Fall Festival, featuring nearly 30 vendors, three food trucks and rides on a wagon pulled by Percherons. The festival will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Colleen Hayne, president of West Concord Historical Society (WCHS), said Corky Gaskell, captain of the Roosters, approached them about a match.
“Corky came to a WCHS board meeting and told us how they like to come to towns that have never had a vintage base ball game like it was played in the 1860s,” Colleen said. “So, we decided - let’s do it! Let’s do history, not just talk about it!”
