KoMets win over Triton, lose to Winona, Zumbrota-Mazeppa, Lourdes

Last week saw mixed results for the Kasson-Mantorville KoMets as they started off by defeating the Triton Cobras on Tuesday but then lost to Zumbrota-Mazeppa on Thursday and Winona on Saturday.
Monday they headed to Rochester where they dropped the first game of this week to the Rochester Lourdes Eagles by a 10-1 score.
The KoMets couldn't get much going at Lourdes as the Eagle bats started out hot jumping to a 4-0 lead in the first inning.
Lourdes then tacked on 2 additional runs in the 2nd and 1 run in the 3rd. The KoMets remained hitless until the top of the 4th inning when Mitch Nelson hit a double off the left center field wall. Lourdes responded with another 2 runs in the bottom of the 4th to take a 9-0 lead. In the top of the 6th, Landon Wenzel singled and later scored to trim the Eagle lead to 9-1. But that was all the KoMets could muster.
Lourdes would end up getting one more in the bottom of the 6th to take home the 10-1 victory. K-M is back in action on Thursday in Pine Island and Friday in Cannon Falls.

Kasson-Mantorville vs. Winona
Things started off well for Kasson-Mantorville on Saturday, May 1, before falling to Winona 12-6. The KoMets took an early 4-0 lead highlighted by singles from Mitch Nelson and Landon Wenzel.
The Winhawks responded however, putting up runs in every inning thereafter.
The KoMets continued to battle putting guys on base and in scoring position every inning. In the top of the 3rd the KoMets threatened after a walk by Dalton Maxwell and a double by Corbin Horning. However, they were unable to push across any runs.
KoMets got things going again in the top of the 4th after singles by Nelson and Weznel before a timely double play took away the scoring opportunity. In the top of the 5th, KoMets had a single from Horning and hit by pitches from Kellen Wilke and Noah Swarts. Another timely double play from the Winhawks gave the KoMets another 0 on the scoreboard.
The KoMets were able to scratch across 2 runs in the top of the 7th after Wilke was hit by a pitch again and a double from Landen Andrist. Wilke would score on a wild pitch and Andrist would score on a ground out by Tanner Hall.
In the end, the KoMets couldn't get enough going and fell 12-6 to the Winhawks.

Kasson-Mantorville vs. Zumbrota-Mazeppa
Kasson-Mantorville’s KoMets couldn't string much together Thursday evening falling to the Zumbrota-Mazeppa Cougars 7-2. The KoMets got things going in the bottom of the 1st after Mitch Nelson doubled and later scored on an error to take a 1-0 lead. The Cougars rallied in the 3rd using a little small ball to take a 2-1 lead.
Score remained that way until the top of the 5th when the Cougars added 3 more insurance runs on 3 walks and 3 hits. Cougars then added an additional 2 more in the top of the 6th on a 2 run home run by Willy Holm.
KoMets tried to mount a comeback in the bottom of the 7th, getting one run on a bases-loaded walk by Chase Splittstoesser before Landon Wenzel ended the game by lining out to left field.

Kasson-Mantorville vs. Triton
Wind, rain, and hail couldn't stop the KoMets from taking on the Cobras in Dodge Center last Tuesday evening. After a brief delay to the start of the game, the KoMets came out swinging, notching 3 runs in the top of the 1st, highlighted by a double from Kyler Kujath, a triple from Mitch Nelson, and a single from Sean Inman.
The Cobras however responded with 3 of their own to tie the game at 3 after 1. The KoMets and Cobras each tallied 1 run in the 2nd inning tying the game at 4. The KoMets then exploded for 5 runs in the top of the 3rd highlighted by a 2 RBI single from Kellen Wilke. The KoMets pitching staff got in a groove and held the Cobras to 1 run over the next 3 innings.
The game got called in the top of the 6th inning due to lightning so resorted back to the last full inning giving the KoMets an 11-5 victory.
Noah Swarts picked up his first career varsity win on the mound.
