Roble Heading to State gymnastics tournament

Byron Gymnast Amber Roble is heading to state in the all-round and helped lead the Byron team to a third place finish in the section meet. To qualify for the state meet a gymnast must finish top three in the all-around or finish basically top six on an individual event.
Amber finished third in the all-around, earning the right to compete as an all-rounder at the state meet, but her score of 36.625 also set a new school record topping the record held by Anna (Harris) Alzamora set in 1991.
As a team the girls had their best team score of the season with a 137.925 finishing third behind second ranked in the state PIZM – 146.0 and a strong Winona Team – 139.825.
The girls started the night off on floor and finished with their best team score on the season.  Amber Roble had a very strong floor routine and scored a 9.425 and finished third. Every individual event had forty-five girls in it. Lydia Evans had a nice floor routine as well finishing seventh with a score of 9.0 and missed advancing to state by one spot. Leah Yokiel finished tied for eighth with a solid score of 8.9. Emma Johnson and Taylor Dean competed well finishing sixteenth and seventeenth with scores of 8.7 and 8.675.
The team moved to vault next and had a solid showing. Amber Roble went for a little more difficult vault landing the first one and scored a 9.025 and finished sixth. The rest of the girls all finished with an 8.7 or higher as well. Ella Ott had her best vault of her career scoring an 8.775 and finished fourteenth. Olivia Yennie was right behind with an 8.75 (15th). Ashanti Rice scored an 8.725 (18th) and teammate Lydia Evans scored an 8.7 (19th).
The team moved onto bars next. Amber Roble finished sixth with a score of 8.625. Lydia Evans finished eleventh with a score of 8.15 and Sophia Mullenbach finished fourteenth with a score of 7.85. Ashanti Rice finished with a score of 7.75 and finished seventeenth. Emma Johnson rounded out the team with a score of 7.35.
The girls finished the night on beam with Amber Roble earning the title of section champion with her first place finish and a score of 9.55. Lydia Evans had a solid beam as well scoring an 8.55 and finishing ninth. Olivia Yennie also had a good routine with one fall and still finished eleventh with a score of 8.2. Ella Ott and Leah Yokiel both did well with scores of 7.95 and 7.925 and finished 14th and 15th respectively.
It was certainly a season of challenges, but this team did a great job of sticking together and working hard through it all. Amber will compete in the state meet on Friday, March 26, starting at 6 p.m.
