‘Truck to Trunk’ food distribution tomorrow at Fairgrounds

Semcac, Channel One Regional Food Bank and USDA Farmers to Families Food Box are sponsoring a Truck to Trunk Pop-up food distribution event on Friday, March 19, at the Dodge County Fairgrounds.
The event will be from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Free boxes of food will be available to anyone facing food insecurity because of the pandemic. No registration or information is required to participate and distribution will be on a first come, first served basis.
Everyone who participates will receive a USDA “Farmers to Families” food box which will include milk and dairy items, protein, fresh fruits and fresh vegetables.
This will be a drive-thru-only event. Community members will drive through and volunteers will place the food in the trunk. There is no need for participants to get out of their car.
The Dodge County Fairgrounds is located at 62922 State Highway 57 in Kasson.
March is also FoodShare month throughout Minnesota.
In 2020, 9% of Minnesotans had incomes below poverty level ($25,926 for a family of four). This included 11% of Minnesota’s children. 
Semcac’s Kasson Food Shelf served 432 households with 2,221 visits and distributed 115,829 pounds of food during 2020. Clients may also receive information and referrals to other community services. 
Minnesota FoodShare envisions a Minnesota where all residents have access to healthy food and no one struggles with food insecurity. The March Campaign addresses these issues directly by promoting the collection of food and funds to stock food shelves across the state.
As an official participant, Semcac’s food shelves will receive a percentage of March FoodShare funds based on donations raised during the campaign and the number of people served in a year.
Semcac is asking service clubs, organizations, businesses, churches and individuals for their support during March. 
Bring donations of funds, food, and personal care items to the local food shelf from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Mondays or Wednesdays. Due to the continued concerns with COVID 19, cash donations are preferred, said Amber Duncan, manager of the Dodge County Food Shelf. Donations must be received on or before April 6 to count towards the Minnesota FoodShare March Campaign.
