Byron Bears overpower Kasson-Mantorville KoMets

Byron Girls soccer hosted a game on their home turf last Tuesday night against the Kasson Mantorville KoMets. The last game between the Bears and KoMets, they tied 2-2, this time both teams wanted a win.
As the game began, with less than a minute into the first half, the KoMets almost scored a goal. The crowd was off of their seats as it was a high kick that just barely missed the net.
Just another five minutes after that, KM tried to score again but the Byron goalie blocked it easily. Only seconds after that attempt, Byron tried to shoot a goal but KM goalie, Lizzie Johnson (#98), blocked it as well.
There were lots of good plays and passes during this game including one where KM KoMet Addie Evans (#6) had a corner kick that bounced off of another KoMet’s head and it grazed by the net with an unfortunate miss.
Each team had very impressive control with the ball but there were also a few tumbles and twirls. Byron kicked the ball towards Johnson and it had quite the bounce. KoMet fans didn’t think Johnson would be able to stop it with such a high jump into the air, but she proved them wrong. She surprised everyone with her huge leap stopping the Bears from making a goal.
Twenty minutes in to the first half, KM KoMet Delaney Awe (#17) made a really nice pass but the KoMets just couldn’t get the ball there. Seconds later, Byron also tried making a play to score and it was a close call. There was a straight line drive shot by a Byron Bear that looked like it was going to go in but at the last second Johnson blocked it beautifully.
Johnson blocked another Byron shot minutes after that. She had a lot of action this game blocking every ball that came towards her in whatever direction. However, with three minutes left of the first half, the Bears got one past her. Byron Bear #17 makes it past Johnson with an assist from Bear #9. It’s now the end of the first half and the scoreboard reads 1-0. Now, a ten minute halftime for coaches to keep their players motivated and for fans to sit back and relax a moment during this intense back and forth.
Five minutes into the second half of the game, KoMet fans held their breaths as KM had almost made a score, it bounced off of Byron’s goalie and with the angle it was going at, it looked as though KM would score, but it just barely missed. KM Evans had a couple corner kicks for the KoMets this second half. She played very well alongside her teammates, and had amazing kicks. The game was going back and forth with each team’s goalie blocking fantastically. There was only twenty minutes left of the game and KM fans were getting anxious as the game was still 1-0. Only eighteen minutes left of the game, Byron Bear #19 scored another goal with an assist from #14, leaving the KoMets even more nervous. No hope was left for the KoMets with only two minutes left and the scoreboard saying 2-0. The buzzer goes off ending this tough game, Byron won 2-0.
