TEAM USA

For months only Heather Vanderpool and her immediate family knew that she had been chosen as one of 17 photographers selected to represent the United States in the World Photographic Cup.
“I got an email and I got really excited and my husband’s like, ‘Are you okay?’ Yeah, really good,” she replied. “I couldn’t tell anybody for two months. We had to wait until Professional Photographers of America (PPA) announced it, so it was challenge.”
She had no idea that she was even being considered for Team USA.
“You don’t even know they’re doing it. They just look from the images that year from the International Print Competition and they select them,” she said.
Earning a spot on Team USA was the culmination of years of hard work.
Vanderpool said she’s been involved with PPA for at least the past six years and through her work with PPA she earned her master’s degree in photography last year and found out about the World Photographic Cup.
The cup imitates the Olympics by having teams from various countries compete against each other.
