Alex Nuehring named new DCI Sports Editor

The DCI has a new Sport Editor as Alex Neuhring began in his new role on Monday.
Nuehring is replacing Chris Schad, who left the paper at the end of the spring sports season.
Although this will be his first time working for the DCI full-time the Rochester native has knowledge after interning in the summer of 2017.
For Nuehring his journey into journalism started when he realized he could combine his passions of sports and writing.
“As a child, I really enjoyed reading, especially the Harry Potter series and Sports Illustrated. Then, in college, I learned to enjoy the creative aspect of writing,” Neuhring said.  “Throughout my life, I've always been a huge sports fan so combining my interest in writing and passion for sports seemed like a natural fit.”Neuhring attended Lourdes High School in Rochester from 2008-2012 and played against high school soccer against K-M and Byron. After that he attended St. Mary's University of Minnesota and earned a degree in Journalism in the spring of 2018 and went back for a second bachelor's degree in Public Relations in the spring of 2019. While at St. Mary's, Neuhring wrote for the school's news blog from 2016 to 2018. He also interned with the sports information department by writing game summaries of the men's and women's basketball teams and women's softball team. Neuhring also wrote profiles about student-athletes.This past summer, Neuhring worked as the Media Relations Coordinator for the Rochester Honkers Baseball Club. There, He created and updated the game day programs for each home game and wrote game summaries that were published to the team's website. For Nuehring his favorite part about journalism is being able to learn about the community. “My favorite part is learning about community members or area athletes who have unique stories and having the honor of getting to share their story with the public.”
Nuehring is looking forward to the new adventure and knows he has big shoes to fill. “I know that I have big shoes to fill as Chris Schad was a great sportswriter, but I'm going to do my best to build strong relationships with the area athletes, coaches, and athletic directors and continue to provide great sports content that you're used to to satisfy our community's abundant passion for high school athletics.”
