Questions surround incident in Salem Township last week

Last Thursday, members of the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office, were called to a farm home in rural Byron, for someone who may had been shot.
After hours of having County Road 3 shut down, and multiple agencies investigating, Captain Scott Behrns, of the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office, explained that they aren’t sure if any guns were actually shot.
Just after 4 p.m Thursday, Olmsted County deputies were called to a rural residence in Salem Township by Byron for someone who may have been shot.
After talking to the victim with medical personnel, there was no clear signs of the victim being shot. Further investigation found that someone may have been shooting at the victim from an outbuilding.
After a search of the area, officers found a long rifle and handgun. At that time, the Olmsted County/Rochester Swat Team was called to the scene to secure the scene.
Later that night, a search team found a 44 year old man in one of the outbuildings at the farm site, who also did not have any gunshot wounds.
Although, they did not realize the identity of either men, Behrns said that the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office is “very” familiar with him.
At the time of publication, it is still not clear about what happened or if any shots were fired, but what Behrns did state is that there was drug use at the scene which only complicates the investigation more.
“We’re not quite clear what happened up there. The other man does not have any gunshot wounds. We have confirmed there are no gunshot wounds to the first male that was transported, so nobody’s been shot. I’m not even sure right now if any shots were fired or if this, and I’ll be very frank, was a drug-induced haze that involves these two. There were narcotics used here and that is making our investigation very difficult,” Behrns said.
According to Behrns both men were taking to the hospital for drug use.
“We continue to have issues in Olmsted County with meth use, and this is what it leads to,” Behrns said.
Helping the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office with the investigation included, State Patrol, Rochester/ Olmsted Swat, DNR Officers, and the Rochester Police Department Drone Unit.
