Triton FFA chalks up another successful Steak Feed

The Triton FFA had another successful steak feed earlier this month serving nearly 450 meals of steak, baked potato, corn, buns and dessert.
The annual event was held at Faith Community Church in West Concord. It serves as a way to thank those who donated to the chapter’s annual fall corn drive during the harvest season and is also open to members of the public who wish to support the Triton FFA.
Triton FFA advisor Robert Ickler said that roughly half of those attending the steak feeds are donors while another 175 to 250 diners are walk-ins.
In preparation for the event, he said, the chapter purchased 450 eight-ounce steaks from the Concord Locker as well as 450 potatoes, buns and 30 cans of corn. They also had 12 pans of dessert bars for patrons to choose from.
The steaks were grilled outside, with the help of FFA supporters. The rest of the meal was prepared in the church kitchen.
There was also a kids meal of hot dogs available.
David Fitzgerald, president of the Triton FFA Alumni and Supporters, said the group always helps out at the steak feed.
He said originally there were plans for 30 kids meals but more were needed necessitating an emergency run for more hot dogs.
People were arriving right up until the end of the evening, he said, and when the clean-up got underway there was little food left.
Triton FFA conducts a corn drive each harvest season where the members seek donations of corn from area farmers as well as monetary donations.
The monies raised are used to support the Triton FFA activities throughout the year. Each year they also take $1,000 of the funds and purchase food at Sunshine Foods in Dodge Center which is then delivered to the food shelf in Kasson.
Ickler said he also wanted to thank a number of people who helped with donations for the Steak Feed including Al-Corn Clean Fuels, Hometown Hardware, Sunshine Foods, Kwik Trip and Pam and Michael Justice.
