2019 means new beginnings for new DC administrator

For new Dodge Center City Administrator  Josh Tetzlaff, the last year has meant a lot of new beginnings for his family and him.
In the last few months, Tetzlaff and his family moved to a new state, he started a new job, and his wife and him are expecting their second child in the next couple of months.
“This adventure has been a lot of firsts for the both of us,” Tetzlaff said.
For Tetzlaff though, one thing is similar for him, and that is the fact that he’s apart of a small town once again.
The job search that landed Tetzlaff in Dodge Center started a few months ago.
Tetzlaff and his wife are originally from South Dakota, and the couple knew that they didn’t want to live any further than where they already were from their hometowns.
Before coming to Dodge Center, Tetzlaff was a senior planner for Brighton Colorado.
“We drew a circle on a map of where that distance was,” Tetzlaff explained.
Inside that circle was the small town of Dodge Center.
After looking up jobs in the targeted area, Tetzlaff found the job posting for the vacant city administrator position. After doing some research on the position, and the community of Dodge Center, he knew that it was the place for his family and him to move to.
“My wife had to remind me that I hadn’t gotten the job yet,” Tetzlaff said.
Nonetheless, after applying for the position, and going through the whole interview process, Tetzlaff was selected to be the new administrator in Dodge Center and started at the end of December.
For Tetzlaff, he is excited to be back in a small town setting once again.
“It’s great being back in a small town again,” Tetzlaff said.
For the first six months to a year on the job, Tetzlaff said, that a lot of it will be learning.
Although he has no major goals for his first year, at this time one thing he pointed to was making internal changes to make the city run more effectively.
Tetzlaff explained that the main role he has, as the city administrator,  is to help make the wishes of the community and city council a reality.
“A lot of what my job is to do is take vision that city council and citizens have and making it a reality,” Tetzlaff explained.
Tetzlaff and his family are still on the lookout for a place to live in Dodge Center, and are excited to become apart of the community in the months and years to come.
“We’re looking forward to moving to town and taking advantage of amenities in town,” Tetzlaff said. “We’re looking forward to settling and becoming apart of the community," he added.
