TRUE LEADERS

Four years ago, the first ever all Hispanic 4-H Club was formed in rural Minnesota.
That group club is known as the DC Pumas and is apart of the Dodge County 4-H program.
Last week,during a conference for county elected officials the DC Pumas was recognized for its hard work,and was awarded the  2019 AMC 4H Community Leadership Award.
Kelly Vincelette, the Dodge County 4-H Coordinator nominated the club earlier this year for not only being pioneers in 4-H but also for the impact that the club has had  in their schools, community, and throughout the state.
“They are one of the first clubs of its sort in Minnesota 4-H, as having all Hispanic membership, and the impact they have had in their schools, community, and throughout the state,” Vincelette said.”They have worked hard at learning about their own culture from their parents,  and then sharing in it out to these different groups of people through displays, skits, project talks, and bulletin boards at school,” she added.
When the club found out that they won the award they were very proud and excited.
“The group was very excited to be receiving this award. They felt pride in their work and to be showcased for all the hard work they have done in the community through 4-H,” Vincelette explained.
Vincelette, said that she is very proud of the group for the hard work that they have put into learning about culture, and teaching others in the community about culture as well.
“I am extremely proud of the DC Pumas, as I am all 4-H clubs and members. The Pumas are all first generation 4-H members and they are making 4-H an experience that they will never forget, by taking leadership opportunities whenever possible,” Vincelette said. “They deserve recognition as they work hard all year round in create a positive cultural image, work with others, and continue to do good work,” she added.
