A new way to find love
A couple of years ago, Alanis Morissette came up with a remix of her popular song “Ironic,” performing it on James Corden’s show.
In a fun way, she remixed the song to modify it for 21st Century problems.
One of the parts of the song says, “It’s like swiping left on your future soulmate,” referring to popular dating sites like Tinder.
While many people think that true love, can’t be found on dating sites or online, I am here to tell you that those people are wrong.
Coming from Rhode Island, I don’t have the luxury of dating anyone local or in the state that I went to high school or college with, or grew up with.
Quite truthfully, if anyone told me when I first moved to Minnesota that I would fall in love with a Minnesota girl, I would tell them that it wouldn’t happen.
Then it happened.
I met someone who changed my mind.
At first, she wasn’t into me, mainly citing that I was a little boring to talk to. It happens.
After a few months or so, we by accident, began messaging each other, online and then I got the courage to ask for her number.
I texted her, and we both instantly realized we had spoken before.
If that isn’t destiny, I don’t know what is.
After talking for a while, she agreed to give me a chance to take her on a date, and we drove around for hours, going to different parks and eventually stopping to get something to eat.
Since then we have been on many dates. I have taken her to my hometown a couple of times (in a state I claim to be the best). We argue about that from time to time, and I have gotten over some of my fears like driving in a Minnesota snow storm.
It actually works out really well because I get to teach her about Rhode Island things, like cheering for winning teams, and she teaches me about Minnesota things, and takes me to beautiful places to explore in Minnesota.
Maybe our story 10 or 15 years ago would be really unique, a Rhode Island guy falls for a Minnesota girl, after meeting online.
But in 2019, and in years to come, I think that there very well may be more stories like ours.
Either way it’s a story that I am glad we can tell.
