HOLIDAY TREE LIGHTING
A few years ago a community Christmas Tree was put up and decorated at Veterans Park in Kasson.
While the tree was put up and decorated by a group, there was no celebration for it.
Last week that wasn’t the case as the Kasson Park Board hosted the first annual Tree Lighting Ceremony.
“Other towns have Christmas Tree Lightings so I suggested it to the Park Board that we should do it this year,” Janet Sinning, a member of the Park Board said.
Sinning explained that instead of just putting up a tree and turning the lights on, they wanted to do more and have more of celebration type feel.
“We wanted to do more than just decorate the tree and turn the lights on,” Sinning said.
The event and putting up the tree was also a community effort as student volunteers from K-M High School went to the gazebo after school to decorate the tree.
Before the tree was “lit” there was also performances by members of the K-M Band as they played Christmas song and a innovation and speech made by Pastor Jacob Hanson, a new comer to Kasson.
“Kasson is a really great community that has a lot to offer,” Hanson said.
Doing the honors of turning the lights on was Mayor Chris McKern.
The event had a healthy crowd in attendance, despite the biter cold weather to start off Christmas in Kasson.
The Park Board hopes that the community event will continue to be an annual event.
