New comer elected to Mantorville City Council

In 2013, Sharon Davern moved to Mantorville, moving back to Minnesota fter living in a variety of different states. 
After living in Mantorville for a while, she began to hear a lot from residents that they didn’t have a say in their local city government and only a few people had a voice in what happens.
That prompted Davern for the first time in her life to run for a political office, in order to help come up with a
solution to the problem. “I’ve always been the
type of person that if I offer a complaint, I also offer a solution,” Davern explained.
After many people in the community asked her if she would run for city council, she eventually decided to run filling with about a week to go before the deadline.
After filling to run for office, Davern began learning about the different issues and
positives that Mantorville has.
Davern explained that one of her favorite parts about campaigning aside being able
to learn about the issues facing different voters was the ability to meet and interact with different voters that she normally wouldn’t have gotten to meet.
“I really enjoy social interactions,” she said.
During her time in office, she said that she may from time to time to stop and chat with people randomly to get their perspective on things, and half her thumb on the pulse of how the community feels.
One of the specific goals that Davern has once she takes office is being able to help form a liaison committee,
which would consist of members of city council along with residents.
She explained that a number of people she talked to felt disenfranchised and she hopes to end that feeling in Mantorville.
The goal of this committee she explained would be to make sure people are engaged in their community and that the wonderful talents in the community are being utilized.
“There are plenty of great gifts that people have in
the community that can be utilized in the community,”
she explained.
As far as having people more aware of what is going, she has the idea to hopefully implement technology into city council meetings by having the meetings streamed live.
She explained that this would be a perfect way to allow people who can’t make it to the meetings to know what is going on in their community.
Overall Davern is looking forward to starting her new chapter on the Mantorville council.
