Local newspaper story helps family find forever home for puppy

A few weeks ago Michele Swift, got some of the worst news imaginable when her husband, Tim found their beloved dog Sophie shot and killed at their home, in rural Claremont.
Last Thursday night, the same Deputy from the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office, that took the report the day of the tragedy, came to their home to deliver more news in regards to the incident.
When the Deputy pulled into the driveway Swift didn’t know what to expect.
“I didn't know what to think when the kids told me they had pulled up and had asked to speak to me. Truthfully, my first thought was I wonder if they caught the person (s) that shot Sophie and were coming to let us know.”
That wasn’t the case however, as the person(s) responsible for the shooting have still not been caught, but the deputy did have some good news for the family.
He explained that a local family had read the article in the DCI about the story of Sophie and was stuck with sadness for the family's tragic loss of their beloved dog.
The deputy explained that the family had a way to help the Swift family.
After having a difficult time finding the time that their  Shih Tzu, needed they decided to look for a new home for their dog. Although, they loved their dog the deputy explained that the dog wouldn’t be the best fit for their household and wanted to give it a good home.
The deputy explained that they wanted their dog to go to the Swift family.
As Michele Swift heard the news she explained that she was in complete shock.
“I was in shock as they were telling me. My heart has been so sad missing our Sophie. Someone had just asked me the day before if I had thought about getting another dog, but I told them I really wasn't ready to start thinking about it. I'm still mourning Sophie's loss, I just wasn't sure if my heart could really be capable of turning around and looking for another dog so soon,” she said.
The deputy gave them the name and number of the family, and Michele told them as tears flowed down her face, “thank you so much for passing this along to us. I sincerely appreciated it and would think about it.”
After the deputy left one of the Swift’s daughters texted the family and asked for some information and a picture of the dog, which she received, and let them know that they would be in touch.
With Tim on a hunting trip, she sent pictures to him and told him what happened and he immediately replied, “ let's go for it! Let's meet him!”
On Saturday the family of their new dog Marshall came by the Swift’s home and as soon as they put him down he immediately went to Michele, and then to Tim.
Soon they were in love with him.
“ He was a cute, and friendly little guy, it didn't take much more than just a moment for us to fall for him,” Michele said.
Soon after they agreed to be Marshall’s new parents.
“We told the family we would love to be his new owners, promising them we would provide a good home to him. As they left, there were hugs and tears no doubt about it,” Michele said.
The Swift family is very thankful for the opportunity to love a new dog in their home and plan on keeping in touch with Marshall’s family in the future.
“We are extremely humbled by their kindness and heartfelt generosity! Sometimes it seems like through pain and sorry there is a light at the end if the tunnel. This family's gesture became that light for us,” Michele said, “ We plan to remain in contact with them, sharing pictures and stories that will shared all in the name of love,” she added.
