Ah, school...
School is... Stressful.
And I’m not just saying that because the next quarter and semester are peeking their heads around the corner. No. It’s always like this.
Anyone who is in school, young or old, knows that there are highs and lows to getting up so early in the morning. These are one of my low points.
As school winds down, and my teachers try to encourage me to keep going, to just keep going for another week, I am exhausted. To say that I’m scrabbling to procrastinate is an understatement, because it’s come to that dreary point where I don’t want to keep climbing up this exhausting mountain anymore. I want to sit down. Take a break. Maybe pick some flowers, or watch the sunset.
Anything but school is usually what my mind wanders to nowadays.
On top of school winding down for the first semester, I find that over half of my classmates are sick. And now I am sick. It is just my luck.
Most people would blame my lack of sleep, but I blame the amount of unneeded stress that I’m taking for no reason.
Being sick is the worst, but luckily I don’t have it as bad as I know others do. The stuffiness, the headache, the sore throat. It’s a common head cold, but it’s the most stubborn one I’ve ever encountered.
It seems no one has much sympathy for students nowadays, though, although I could argue that school is most likely harder than it was in the past. The standardized tests we are required to take now are more stressful than they probably need to be too. While in high school they are taken rather lightly, in elementary school I thought the weight of the world was on my shoulders.
I care a little less now, luckily.
I could also argue that the math homework I show my dad is a foreign language to him, and that one time I told my mom about the classes I was taking in Spanish and she thought I was talking about what time it was.
School is beneficial in confusing my parents, at least.
But school is also beneficial in confusing me.
We are currently registering for new classes, which would typically be easy for me to do, as I’m not usually allowed a lot of electives. But senior year I seem to be free as a bird when it comes to required courses.
I’m also subtly reminded by the big “12” on the top of my registration form for next year that I don’t have as much time as I would like to think anymore, but we’ll just have to see what next year brings for me.
