K-M shuts out Triton in conference dual

After the Kasson-Mantorville wrestling team finished 10th in the Minnesota Christmas Tournament, the team felt that they had work to do between now and the Cheesehead Invitational coming up on January 5 and 6. Both individual tournaments contain extremely challenging fields and are thrown on the schedule to prepare the KoMets for the rugged section run that lies ahead.
Although they were taking on a short-handed Triton team on December 21, the KoMets still needed to maintain their focus and sharpen some things up heading into the Cheesehead. Their response was a 77-0 victory that improved their dual record to 3-0 on the season with all three wins coming in the Hiawatha Valley League.
While the dual was a chance to get some rest, it also represented a chance to get some wrestlers who haven’t cracked the lineup an opportunity to hit the mat. 120-pounder Brian Finley made the most of it, scoring a fall over Owen Garness at 4:17. 126-pounder Jace Minelli also picked up a win for the KoMets with an 11-4 decision over Colby Dobbs.
At 145 pounds, Bennett Berge pinned Kyle Mitchell at 4:17 while Jacob Keller earned a 17-6 major decision at 152 pounds over Kaleb Strom.
Other matches to take place included Brody Hegge defeating Weston Voltz by injury default at 170 pounds, Ethan Shea defeating Trey Theobald with a fall at 4:56 in the 182-pound match, Will Jensen defeating Hunter Jennings in a 12-2 major decision at 195 pounds, Garsen School pinning Maxxon Lamoree with at 1:02 of a 220 pound match and Anthony Moe-Tucker pinning Corban Giesler at 1:26 in the heavyweight match.

The KoMets will use the holiday break to prepare for the Cheesehead Invitational, which will take place in Kaukauna, Wis. It will represent another opportunity for K-M to learn heading into a conference schedule stretch next month.
