Farmers' Market, Anyone?

Vicky Heitman is throwing this out there: Who’s interested in having a farmers’ market at her place of business, Prairie Meadows Senior Living Community?
Heitman, the Kasson facility’s marketing director, has a vision of “Produce on the Prairie,” featuring produce, pastries, cookies, crafts, jewelry and hand-made items, and she’s gauging community and vendor interest.
She can picture residents and others checking the goods out.
“I kind of want to get an idea before we launch this,” she said. “We certainly would like to launch it and give it a whirl. I just kind of wanted to know how much interest there really is out there. We need vendors. I don’t want it to be one or two. We can certainly have more than that, and see where it goes from there.”
The market would likely be held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursdays from July through October, if the weather cooperates.
There’s plenty of room out front for parking, and visitors can peruse the goods.
Vendors would need to bring their own equipment, such as umbrellas.
Heitman said she would charge a minimal fee for advertising, and vendors can keep the rest of what they earn from sales of “produce, pastries, and petunias.”
She said residents are excited about the idea.
“I feel like Prairie Meadows has a lot of charm,” she said. “People love a farmers’ market. And I know there are area communities that have theirs. We want it to be a fun, nice experience.”
