Kasson asks residents to reduce electricity

The city of Kasson is asking residents to reduce electric use between 12  and 3 p.m.  as much as possible, today July 17th.

“KPU has been notified that  our Transmission provider that they need to shut off an adjacent 161,000 volt powerline to safely repair the line that failed last night,” the city posted on Facebook.

According to the city the repair must be done as soon as possible “ before the load increases to prevent more outages.”

“For the duration of the repair, there is the possibility that Kasson and adjacent cities will lose power if the 69,000 volt feeder line gets overloaded,” the city wrote on Facebook. “As these are not KPU facilities or equipment, we have no control over this issue.”

KPU staff is in communication with the repair crews, the city wrote on Facebook.
