The road to Eagle Scout certification brings new game to KMMS

One of the biggest parts of the journey to becoming an Eagle Scout is a service project. A Kasson-Mantorville High School student has turned that part of his journey into something fun for middle school student.
KMHS Junior Ben Triehy first played Gaga Ball, a sort of one ball dodgeball game played in a pit, when he was at a boy scout camp in northern Minnesota. Those in the pit hit the ball at each other and try to avoid getting hit. Once hit, they’re out of the pit. When Triehy was looking to do a service project for his Eagle Scout certification, this seemed like a perfect fit.
“The kids all really seemed to like it up there, so we figured it would be good for the kids down here too.”
With the help of donors and other builders, Triehy assembled the structure in his front yard. The project was complete within a couple of days. Without much of a pattern, the group of builders assembled eight panels that make up the pit. Each of these panels are three boards high. Triehy was grateful for the help of his fellow volunteers.
