Huskies crown champions at Big 9 tournament

The Owatonna Huskies have been strong all season and at the biggest meet of the season so far, they battled. 
Crowning champions at No.3 singles and No.1 doubles, the Huskies finished second at the Big Nine conference meet in Rochester. Rochester Mayo was the conference champion, scoring 73 points-15 ahead of the Huskies. Head coach Curt Matejcek said that every point mattered. 
“We also had critical points points on the consolation side by Alissa (Weide) winning,” he added. 
The teams were spread out throughout Rochester as teams could be playing at either Mayo or John Marshall or the Outdoor Tennis Complex. 
The finals however, were played at the Rochester Outdoor Tennis Complex. 
In singles, after defeating Hannah Weng in the quarterfinals 6-1,6-0, Huskies No. 1 singles’ Emily Rahrick fell to No.2  seed Julia Geske of John Marshall 6-1,6-0. Rahrick would go on to defeat Julia Barber for a third place finish. 
No. 2 singles’ Alissa Weide fell in the opening match Ambriel Jacobs 6-2,6-1. After defeating Brianna Peterson in the consolation quarterfinals, Weide would defeat Anika Nybo of Red Wing 6-4,0-6, 10-2 to take third as well. 
Owatonna’s Sara Anderson upset top seed Amalin Sorajja of Rochester Mayo on her way to a No. 3 singles Big Nine Conference championship. In the finals, Anderson defeated the No.4 seed in Chelsea Schaffer 6-3-6-1. 
No. 4 singles’ Annabelle Paquin took second. 
The doubles duo of Caitlyn Anderson and Gabi Deml won the No.1 doubles title after defeating top seed Natali Sorajja and Kailee Johnson 6-4,6-4. In three matches, the duo won 6-0,6-2, 6-3,6-4, and a 6-4,6-4 finals win. 
No.2 doubles duo of Macy Voss and Katie Segler took home a second round finish after dropping the finals match to Ani BolBulian and Ellen Barancyck 6-2,6-4. The duo defeated Katelyn Schammel and Amy Stoulil
