Legion breakfast supports cancer telethon

They were serving up French toast, pancakes, scrambled eggs and sausages at the West Concord American Legion Post Sunday morning. The Post serves breakfast to the public every Sunday morning but this past Sunday’s event was special.
One hundred percent of the proceeds were donated to the Eagles Cancer Telethon, a long-running event in southern Minnesota scheduled for this weekend.
The fundraising breakfast has been going on for so many years that no one could really remember when it started.
Legion Commander Myron Ehrich said he has been involved with the West Concord Post for 17 years and they have sponsored the breakfast for all those years.
Longtime Legion Member Pete Boe, who was busy in the kitchen making pancakes and French toast said he didn’t remember exactly when it started and neither did Signora Boe, an Auxiliary member who was at the table selling baked goods.
All agreed, however, that it is has always drawn a large crowd and Ehrich said that the Legion and Auxiliary are usually able to donate more than $1,000 to the telethon.
This year they will be able to donate a bit more of their total to the cause as the cost of food for the benefit was covered by a Thrivent Action Grant from Thrivent Financial.
