A COMMUNITY MOURNS

The tragic loss of a teenager in a violent single-vehicle rollover Friday afternoon in northeastern Dodge County has put the Dodge Center community as well as the rest of the county into a state of mourning this holiday season. 
Logan M. Maas, 18, died instantly after being thrown from the vehicle he was riding in as it rolled over in the 53000 block of 275th Avenue, a gravel road located in Milton Township south of Pine Island. The crash happened around 4:14 p.m. 
Maas was a volunteer firefighter for Dodge Center and had plans of joining the Marines after graduation. (See related story.)
Three other teenagers, all girls from West Concord, survived the crash. Sgt. Troy Christianson of the State Patrol said because the teens are juveniles, their names will not be released until the investigation is complete and the county attorney’s office has reviewed the case. 
The three survivors were taken to St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester with non-life threatening injuries. Christianson told the DCI that the driver was wearing her seat belt and did not sustain any injury, though she was still seen at the hospital. 
Dodge County deputies responded to the scene and quickly learned that one of the victims was somebody especially close to them. Maas’ father, Matt, is the emergency management director for Dodge County and the assistant fire chief for Dodge Center. 
Sheriff Scott Rose said because of the severity of the crash and that it involved a family member of one of his employees,
