Lady Bears soccer team shuts out Rockets

BYRON — Saturday, September 23, was the day the Byron soccer girls took on Rochester John Marshall. The pitch was a bit sloppy, but the Bears were sharp as ever, earning a 3-0 victory over the Rockets. Payton Satzke had a pair of goals, and Marisssa Ellavsky had one in Byron’s non-conference win over John Marshall. Byron grabbed a 2-0 first-half lead. Byron soccer girls tripped-up by Winhawks
The Byron girl’s soccer team fell to a good Winona team, 1-2, last Thursday, September 21. Both teams scored their goals in the second half of action. Winona Stats: Faith Quinn, 2 goals; Anna Gilmer, 1 assist; Goalie Benna Wells had 6 saves. Byron Stats: Paige Halder, 1 assist; Payton Satzke, 1 goal. Goalie Cadence Loughran, no saves. Competing in the Hiawatha Valley Conference, the Bears sit at 8-1-1 overall.

TKWH soccer girls tie one, lose one
The Triton/Kenyon-Wanamingo/Hayfield girls soccer team played at Cannon Falls on Tuesday, September 19, and finished the game in a 1-1 tie. The Bombers only goal came on a penalty kick. “That makes this game the first time over the past two seasons we have not allowed an opponent to score a goal from open play,” said Coach Jeremy Himli. TKWH’s goal was scored by Romina Medina (6th of the season) with an assist from Gigi Lundi. Alyssa Knudson had 12 saves.
On Saturday, September 23, the Cobras traveled to Tri-City United for another section game. The TKWH girls lost 1-4, after playing 0-0 for much of the first half. The Cobras’ goal came on a last-minute penalty kick by Camila Medina. Alyssa Knudson had 18 saves in goal.
TKWH now holds a 0-7-3 record on the season. They have scored 10 goals in 10 games after scoring just 2 last season, and the Cobras are surrendering 2 fewer goals per game than last year.
