Fun weekend ahead at Marigold Days, Big Iron Classic

There is a weekend of fun ahead as Mantorville celebrates its 58th annual Marigold Days. Also this weekend is the Big Iron Classic at the fairgrounds.
Although the main activities get underway on Friday, registration for the Quilt Show is today (Thursday) from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Opera House. Friday activities include Flower Show registration at the Greek Revival House from 4 to 9 p.m. and a vendor reception at the Welcome Center from 4 to 7 p.m. From 5 to 7 p.m. there will be a Spaghetti Supper at StoneBridge Church.
The Cambodian Dancers will be returning this year with a performance at 7 p.m. on the Music stage. The Mantorville Saloon is the location for a street dance from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.
Activities get an early start on Saturday with a Pancake Breakfast at the Fire Hall from 8 to 10 a.m. and the opening of the Flea Market at Riverside Park at 8 a.m. Also at 8 a.m. there will be registration for the Kids’ Fishing Contest that will be held at Goat Island at 8:30 a.m.
Both the Quilt Show and the Flower Show will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Big Iron Classic Truck Show opens at 10 a.m. at the fairgrounds in Kasson. The Big Iron Classic is in its 23rd year and brings in as many as 600 trucks and thousands of visitors to take a look at the big vehicles.
Back at Marigold Days, there will be Family Bingo from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. behind the Greek Revival House and Rookie the Clown will be on the Revival House lawn from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. making his balloon animals.
The Pie and Ice Cream Social will be a the Senior Center on Clay Street from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the Beer Garden will be open at the Fire Hall from noon to 6 p.m. and the Bean Bag Tournament start at 1 p.m. with registration at noon.
At 1 p.m., the annual Field of Flags will take place at 8th Street and Highway 57.
Designer Purse Bingo begins at 3 p.m., continuing until 6 p.m., behind the Greek Revival House.
There will be no question when it is 3 p.m. as that is when the Big Iron Truck Parade will be entering Mantorville from the north and continuing down Highway 57 to the fairgrounds. The Big Iron Truck Pull begins at 6 p.m. in front of the grandstand at the fairgrounds.
Be at the Marigold Days Music Stage at 7 p.m. for the crowning of Miss Mantorville and the announcement of several community awards.
The evening concludes with Fireworks at Goat Island at 8:30 p.m. and the Fire and Rescue Department Dance at the Fire Hall from 8 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.
The Flea Market opens again at 9 a.m. on Sunday and continues until 4 p.m. The Softball Tournament begins at 8 a.m. at Mantor Field. Also at 8 a.m. will be the registration for the Car Show at 6th and Clay Streets. The show runs from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
StoneBridge Church will be holding a service at 10 a.m. on the Music Stage. The Flower Show continues from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and the Pie and Ice Cream Social is open again from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. For football fans, stop by the Mantorville Saloon at noon to take in the Vikings game.
The Grande Parade is a highlight of the day, beginning at 1:30 p.m. followed by the Firefighter Water Fight at 3 p.m. on 5th Street.
