Village Inn Softball Team Wins 31 To 5
The Village Inn Ladies Softball team traveled to Kenyon last Monday night for a game and came home with a 31 to 5 win. The locals used 28 base hits, and 14 walks to good advantage for the lopsided score. Kasson’s defense was sharp, as was their batting at the plate. In two meetings of these teams, the Village Inn team has been victorious both times, by a large margin in score.
Last Wednesday the Village Inn team traveled to Goodhue for a return game. In the third inning the rains came, and washed out the game, with the Kasson team holding a 8 to 1 lead. So the record for the year with Goodhue, will stand at one loss. Tonight the Recreation Lanes team from Rochester will come to town for a 8 o’clock game.

Save a life over Labor Day
The American Red Cross is asking that all eligible blood donors in the community give blood when the Bloodmobile is in Kasson on August 18. The Red Cross especially needs community support at this Bloodmobile because it takes place just before Labor Day. During Labor Day weekend Americans take to the highways in record numbers. When patients need blood, they cannot wait for blood to be collected, processed and distributed to the hospital where they are being treated. They depend upon the ready supply of blood from healthy volunteers to help them through an accident or illness. “I would like to ask everyone who is able to donate to please give at this Bloodmobile,” said Alice Redman, coordinator. To be eligible to donate, one must be in good health, 17 years of age or older and weigh at least 105 pounds. The Bloodmobile will be at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kasson on Wednesday, August 18 from 1 to 7 p.m. To make an appointment, call the church at 634-7110 or call Alice Redman at 634-7413. Those who prefer to just “walk in,” are asked to please call to let them know that they plan to donate so that the Red Cross Bloodmobile can be staffed accordingly.

Miss Mantorville contest
Upcoming Mantorville juniors or seniors are invited to participate in the 2003/2004 Miss Mantorville event. A $500 scholarship will be awarded to Miss Mantorville 2003/2004. The Miss Mantorville court consists of a Queen and Princesses and/or other attendants. All constants will be asked to ride on the parade float throughout the season, up to 2004 Marigold Days. The Mantorville Restoration Association will make arrangements and transportation. The Mantorville parade will be Sunday September 7. The Miss Mantorville court will be expected to represent Mantorville in the coming year in other community events, such as Olde Tyme Days in June, Christmas in Mantorville, the first weekend in December, and distribution of marigolds throughout the city in May. The first responsibility will be working the pancake breakfast at the VFW during Marigold Days. The Miss Mantorville judging will take place on Wednesday, September 3rd at the First Congregational Church in Mantorville. We will begin at 6:30 p.m. Each contestant will have a fifteen-minute interview with three judges. Please plan on remaining there until 9:30 p.m. or when judging is completed. Coronation will be held in the park on Saturday, September 6th around 6:30 p.m. Parents or guardians will be asked to join constants on that evening.

The K-M Girl Scouts will be sponsoring KoMet Kindness Week during the week of September 30-October 6. The Scouts and their leaders were wearing and selling the KoMet Kindness T-shirts at Festival In the Park over the weekend. Abbie Horsman and Maddie Larsen were two of the Scouts wearing the shirts and helping to promote their upcoming event.
