Mother allegedly runs over son in Salem Township

A 37 year old man received significant lower body injuries, Monday evening, after allegedly being run over by a vehicle driven by his mother.
According to Captain Scott Behrns, from the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 5:14 p.m., Olmsted County Deputies responded to a residence in the 3500 block of County Road 150 SW in Salem Township for an assault complaint.  Upon the deputies’ arrival, they located a 37-year-old male that had significant lower body injuries from being run over by a vehicle.  The investigation at the scene determined that Cynthia Grund, 58, from rural Salem Township had used a 2004 Ford Explorer to run over the victim who is Grund’s son. During the investigation, Behrns stated that it was also determined that the victim has a severe alcohol addiction and he was no longer wanted in Grund’s residence.
The victim who was highly intoxicated began to walk down the rural driveway, when Grund went to pick him up and take him to a friend’s house.  When Grund approached the victim, the victim refused to get into the vehicle after numerous requests from Grund and made a statement to the effect of “why don’t you just run me over.”  
According to Behrns, the victim then laid down in the driveway in front of Grund’s vehicle.  Grund then backed the vehicle up and ran intentionally ran over the victim.  Grund admitted to her actions and at one point made a comment to the effect, “He didn’t believe I would.  He has been drinking all day.  We gave him a chance.” The victim was transported to St. Marys Hospital in Rochester where he underwent surgery for significant pelvic injuries.  His current medical status in not known at the time.
The victim received medical care at the scene from Byron First Responders and Gold Cross Ambulance.Grund was taken into custody at the scene and is facing the potential of several felony level charges which will be determined by the Olmsted County Attorney’s Office.  Grund’s initial court appearance will be on March 20th, at 10:30 a.m. in Olmsted County District Court. The case is still under investigation by the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division, at this time.
