Mantorville hosts candidate forum

In less than a week voters across the state and country will have the chance to cast their vote for different positions at all levels of government.
One of those positions that will be voted on for local community members will be for Mantorville City Council and Mayor.
As a way to inform the public about the different stances that candidates have on the issues facing Mantorville, a City Council and Mayor Forum was held.
One of the questions asked to the candidates was “If elected would you have any conflict of interests with the city?”
When Mayor Candidate Jim Potter was asked, he responded honestly by saying “The most significant conflict I would have is that I currently have a lawsuit against the city.”
According to Potter, the lawsuit came after false promises were made to him that the City has not followed through on. He stated during the forum that the lawsuit isn’t the ultimate reason why he’s running for mayor, but in a way is part of the reason.
“It was the course of the lawsuit that I realized how little insight there is in the City,” he stated.
The attorney representing the City of Mantorville said in the matter all but two of the seven issues have been dismissed in the case he attorney explained that they recently filed a motion to dismiss the remainder of the issues. That ruling must be made by the end of the year.
The DCI will continue to follow the case and provide updates as they become available.
Other responses to conflict of interest question Chuck Bradford ( Mayor Incumbent)- I have no conflicts of interests with the City of Mantorville, in fact I continue to volunteer my time and expertise to the community.” “I Also continue to donate my net salary back to the City.”
Sharon Davern (City Council Candidate) - Davern explained that she has no conflict of interests with the city. “The only businesses I have wouldn’t have anything to do with the City,” she explained.
Don Hofstad (City Council Candidate) Hofstad explained that although he owns his own plumbing business in the city since being on the city council he does not do work for the
City of Mantorville even when asked and gives suggestions about others they can turn to but does not do work for the city.
Luke Nash (City Council Candidate) “I don’t have any perceived conflict of interests at this point.” “As a part of being on City Council you are asked to sign a form saying that you have no conflict of interests or upcoming conflicts of interests.”
