KoMets head into home stretch

The Kasson-Mantorville softball team is heading into the final stretch of the season as the two-time defending state champions look to hit their stride. They showed plenty of positives while picking up victories over Byron and Rochester Century last week.
The KoMets began their week by facing HVL foe Byron last Thursday. With K-M on the road, the lineup was on full display as they put up 11 runs on the afternoon. Kathleen Wright lead the way with a pair of doubles and two runs driven in while Kendra Powers (4 RBI) and Mackenzie Hemann (3 RBI) also had great days at the plate in an 11-5 victory.
After the conference win that brought their HVL record to 5-1 on the season, the KoMets were ready for some non-conference action as they went to Wabasha for a triangular with Rochester Century and Wabasha-Kellogg.
In the first game, K-M tangled with the Panthers and were able to lean on their offense for a 4-3 win. Harrington continued to hit well and set the tone for the lineup as she recorded three hits and crossed the plate three times. Powers continued her productive ways by adding a couple hits and an RBI while Hemann also shined through with a single that drove in two.
For Game 2, the KoMets faced a W-K team that had struggled during the early part of the season, but had caught fire recently winning four of their past five games. K-M would do their best to buck that trend as Stephanie Meyer hit a solo home run and Addison Murry collected a pair of hits and a RBI. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough offense as the Falcons picked up a 4-2 win.
“Outside of the setback against [Wabasha-Kellogg], I thought we played pretty well,” K-M softball coach Paul Mann observed. “The Century win was very nice. Chante pitched well and we made some plays to win. Against W-K, we just couldn’t hit. We just needed to be more disciplined at the plate.”
