Kasson Woman arrested for Christmas night DWI

A Kasson woman has been jailed for allegedly driving drunk on Christmas night.
 
Karlyn Michelle Brewington, 36, was arrested on Christmas Night in Kasson. This is Brewington's second DWI offense within the past 16 months.
 
According to the criminal complaint, a officer was facing northeast in the Cenex parking lot where they saw a vehicle traveling east on Main Street West. The vehicle drove through the stop sign located at the intersection of Eighth Avenue NW without stopping. The officer drove after the vehicle, caught up near the 500 block of Veterans Memorial Highway and pulled over the vehicle.
 
The officer approached the open driver’s side window and began speaking with the driver.The officer  explained that he was stopping her because of the stop sign violation and asked for her license. The officer could smell a distinct odor of alcoholic beverages coming from the open window and asked Brewington if she had been drinking. Brewington told law enforcement that she drank two glasses of chardonnay prior to driving. The officer returned to his patrol car and ran Brewington’s license and obtained his PBT.
 
The officer went to Brewington’s vehicle again and asked her to step out of the vehicle so he could perform some tests to make sure she was okay to drive. She complied. Brewington denied having any medical issues and stated she needed her glasses to see.
 
A PBT was conducted on Brewington, which resulted in test results of .240, which is three times the legal limit to drive.
 
The officer advised Brewington that he was placing her under arrest and bringing her to the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office for the breath test. She later refused the breath test.
 
According to Steele County Jail records, Brewington was booked into jail on Dec. 26 and has since been released.
 
She has a DWI conviction in 2017.
