K-M’s Hunn recognized by Girls on the Run Minnesota

Girls on the Run Minnesota (GOTR MN) has honored three area coaches including K-M’s Brian Hunn who was honored with the Be An Includer Award for prioritizing inclusion, diversity, equity and access in his role as Girls on the Run coach at Kasson-Mantorville Elementary.
Chaudhari and Hunn are two of more than 400 coaches who volunteered with Girls on the Run Minnesota during the fall 2024 season, leading small teams of third -eighth grade girls and gender-expansive youth through an interactive curriculum focused on building social and emotional life skills. During the eight-week program, students participate in fun, interactive lessons that foster confidence, build peer connections and encourage community service while they prepare for an end-of-season celebratory 5K event.
The award Chaudhari received is in honor and memory of Brittany Boegel, a beloved coach and teacher who died in a hiking accident in Alaska in July 2018. Boegel started the Heart & Sole team at Venture Academy in Minneapolis in 2016 and was dedicated to supporting girls from all backgrounds.
Hunn was nominated for the award by his co-coach, Amy Eichten. Together, they coached a team of 12 third, fourth, and fifth graders who met twice a week after school.
“Brian is a huge component of our Kasson-Mantorville Girls on the Run team! As a veteran coach, he consistently provides structure, reassurance, and fun to all girls on our team,” Eichten said. “Whether he’s staying late to ensure a girl is picked up from practice, playing fun music on his speakers for the girls to run to, or partnering up with a girl when the numbers are odd, he’s providing inclusion for all girls on our team. Additionally, Brian represents Girls on the Run in his own personal life by choosing to run races in honor of GOTR and encouraging girls to join our team.“
