K-M High School receives $21,420 grant

Kasson-Mantorville High School recently received a $21,420 grant, which will be used to establish a state-of-the-art CNA/Health Sciences lab. This will enhance career readiness opportunities for students, according to a press release from the K-M school district.
“We are thrilled to increase our programming for students,” said Ashley Kaplan, director of student and staff support systems at K-M schools and author of the grant. “This is a great opportunity to add an additional career readiness course for our KoMet students.”
The impact grant is from the Minnesota Service Cooperative CTE Team and the FutureForward Impact Grant Review Committee. K-M schools and Triton Public Schools are partnering on it.
The goal is to create a classroom space to serve as a health sciences lab at K-M High School. Following Minnesota Department of Health guidelines, equipment will be purchased to use in an existing classroom for Nurse Aid Training. The lab will be outfitted during the 2024-2025 school year, with students enrolling in the Nursing Assistant/CNA course in early 2025.
Then, the students would take the course beginning in the 2025-2026 school year.
The district is also partnering with Minnesota State College Southeast so students will earn college credit. The CNA/Health Sciences lab represents a significant investment in the future of K-M High School and Triton Public Schools students, empowering them to pursue rewarding careers in the healthcare industry, according to the press release.
“We are grateful to have received this grant funding to increase career readiness opportunities for our KoMet students at Kasson-Mantorville High School,” Kaplan said. “Students who take this course will be able to gain employment during their high school career in a position that pays $20 an hour. The course will also allow students to earn three credits that they can transfer to a state nursing program.”
