Just do it

We wait all winter long for a sign of spring.  Then the first robin is spotted.  Then a dandelion.  Coats become lighter and sometimes even optional.  It truly is springtime.
  It’s a time of renewal.  People spring clean.  Lawns are raked.  Gardens are tilled. Spring offers a promise of warm days ahead.  This is something that we might take for granted.  It just happens and we don’t think too much about it.
Another thing we don’t think too much about is are we giving as much as we are receiving?  A checks and balance or a little mental spring cleaning.  This comes to mind with April being National Volunteer Month.  A great time to think about how you can give more of your time.
You can volunteer with your church, local school, food shelf, senior center, meals on wheels - the choices are endless.  It doesn’t matter what you do, as long as you do it.  The Nike campaign “Just Do It” should be National Volunteer Month’s slogan.
Many people think about volunteering and maybe even talk about volunteering but never take the next step to actually volunteer.
You might think that you couldn’t possibly fit one more thing into your schedule.  I bet you can.  If you have a passion for something, there will always be time to fit it in.  
One thing we like to say at Big Brothers Big Sisters is don’t change your life to change a child’s life.  Do what you are already doing and just add a Little.  Maybe it’s as simple as walking your dog, making your favorite recipe, or having an evening meal.  
Volunteering doesn’t have to change your life, but it will.  As we give of our time, we receive many gifts in return.  I have yet to meet someone that is passionate about their volunteer work that doesn’t say they get so much more then they give.  
The season is here, so spring to it and “JUST DO IT”.
