Hy-Vee, Salvation Army to collect winter gear, food, hygiene items

Kasson Hy-Vee and the Dodge County Salvation Army have joined forces for the 1st annual community Winter Gear, Food and Hygiene Drive to help feed and keep Dodge County warm.
The drive is collecting freshly cleaned winter gear, including boots, coats, snow pants, hats, gloves, and scarves; non-perishable food, and hygiene items. The items can be dropped off in front of the Kasson Hy-Vee from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28. Volunteers will be available to help with donations.
The list of hygiene items needed include paper towels, toilet paper, toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, body wash and bar soap, Q-tips, disposable razors (men and women), hairbrushes and combs, hair ties, dish soap, pads and tampons, smaller bottles of laundry soap, men’s or women’s deodorant.
Food items needed include flour, sugar, brown sugar, baking soda, baking powder, powdered sugar, cooking oil, cake/brownie mix, cake frosting, pasta noodles of any kind, pasta sauce (spaghetti and alfredo), peanut butter, instant potatoes, canned fruit, canned veggies (especially corn), canned soup, canned beans, canned meat (tuna, Spam, chicken), cereal, pancake mix, syrup, Hamburger Helper meals, and condiments (ketchup, mustard, mayo, dressings, jelly)
The items will be distributed from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 2, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kasson.
