Hope feed store owners  keep Kasson site open

The future of the Kasson feed store was unknown when CHS announced on June 5 that it planned to either sell or close the Kasson elevator after this year’s harvest.
The same announcement included closures for grain elevators in Ostrander and Wykoff; the company closed elevator operations in Claremont and Byron last year.
Instead of closing its doors, however, Krause Feeds & Supplies in Hope is leasing the feed store and warehouse and will rename it KFS of Hope.
Owners Larry and Kristy Mulert expect to keep current staff on with no immediate changes planned for the site.
“We’re just getting started,” said Larry Mulert.
A former employee of CHS, Larry Mulert at one time was the manager at the Kasson feed store, in addition to managing CHS facilities in Byron and Chatfield.
Larry Mulert said he left CHS eight years ago and purchased Krause Feeds & Supply from Jim Krause, adding that Krause still works at the Hope store.
CHS, an Inver Grove Heights-based agriculture co-op said in the closure announcement that they are closing the three facilities because farmers are increasingly delivering their harvests to larger corn and soybean processing facilities and river terminals.
