HOMETOWN VET

 
Ever since she was little, Jennifer Kelly told people that she wanted to be a veterinarian one day.
Now less than 10 years after graduating from K-M High School, Kelly is doing just that, as she is a veterinarian at the Carriage House in Kasson.
Kelly’s journey first began when she studied at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls where she earned her undergraduate degree in biology. From there, she went on to veterinary school at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. During the summers while in college and high school, she also worked at the Carriage House, where her father Dr. Bill Herberg was a vet.
During her time doing different roles for the kennel and office, Kelly explained that she gained a lot of valuable experience.
“I learned a lot from everyone here,” Kelly said.
After graduating from veterinary school last year, Kelly had the chance to come back to her hometown area, being offered a job with the Carriage House, working mainly out of the Dodge Center office at first before moving to a full time position at the Kason office.
Since Kelly went through the Kasson school district, she now has the chance to help many of the people she grew up with pets, something she says she enjoys.
“It’s fun to see people I grew up with in the community and help take care of their pets,” Kelly said.
Kelly explained that being able to provide a veterinarian office that offers a wide range of services in a local community like Kasson is very important.
“Being able to get care for their pets right here in the community is super important,” Kelly said. “it’s a really good thing,” she added.
One of the things that Kelly enjoys most is being able to help a wide variety of different animals and being able to help them in a number of different ways whether they come in for their regular vaccines or if they need a major surgery.
“It’s an exciting career and it always keeps you on your toes,” Kelly explained.
For Kelly, being able to work in her hometown and doing something that she loves has been really rewarding.
“It’s really rewarding, exciting and fun,” Kelly said.
