Goodbye, ‘Grim’

Grabbing a rope to leap into the Zumbro RIver off a high limestone cliff known as "Grim" has been a favorite summer pastime of kids and adults for years in Mantorville.
 
But the cliff is eroding and rocks are tumbling into the river, creating danger just below the surface.
 
“They call it ‘Grim,’ just because it’s kind of dangerous,” city councilman Don Hofstad said. “It’s no longer there. The rope has been cut. Sometimes they put ropes back up again. But there’s no discussion in this. There’s nothing that is safe there anymore. It’s just 10 inches of water – if that.
