‘God’s Wonder Lab’ comes to Kasson July 17-21

“God’s Wonder Lab” will be coming to the area next month as the annual Vacation Bible School (VBS) at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Kasson.
VBS is scheduled for Sunday through Thursday, July 17 – 21, from 6 to 8 p.m. The program will start at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 17.
“We want to make this a fun experience for children to learn God’s word,” said Geraldine Struss, coordinator of the VBS.
A science theme, she said, will be used to teach the children about God’s word and his creation.
All around the church, she said, there will be science labs set up.
A science lab conducts experiments that explain how things are possible. In Jesus' ministry, He did things that are impossible, the church VBS site says. It continues “His greatest miracle of all was dying on the cross and rising from the dead for our salvation.” At God's Wonder Lab, youngsters can discover that Jesus does the impossible for us, the VBS organizers said.
An Astronomy Corner will illustrate day and night with the stars and planets. In the Geology area there will be a waterfall and there will be geodes for each child to open. Engineering will have items youngsters can manipulate and there will also be areas dedicated to biology and meteorology.
There will also be many other fun activities, Struss and Gary Remmele, another church volunteer, said.
“We have lots of fun,” Remmele said. “The kids have a lot of fun.”
There will be different games outside every night. There will also be action songs, VBS T-shirts, art activities, free music CD/DVD or download cards, and snacks. All the fun activities, Struss and Remmele said, tie in to what the children have learned that day.
The church pastor will take care of the opening and closing programs and go through the lessons of the day.
“It’s very interactive,” Struss said, “and ties the lesson of the day into something modern.”
Struss stressed that VBS is not limited to church members.
It’s open to all community kids, she said, whatever church they attend or if they do not attend a church. “We really try to make this a friendly, fun VBS,” she said. It’s also educational, she added.
VBS, she said, is for children who will be four years old by September 1 through those entering sixth grade in the fall.
In the past children have attended from Hayfield, Dodge Center, West Concord and Byron in addition to Kasson and Mantorville. Kids who have aged out of the VBS often come back to help.
Registration is limited, Struss said, as the leaders want to keep it small enough so they know every child’s name and can provide a high quality experience for each child.
