FLOODED

With an abundance of perception, every season this year, there were major headaches for those in the area last Friday, after towns in Dodge County were hit with as much as close to eight inches of rain. 
One of the main things that was impacted for the traditional Mantorville Stagecoach Days being canceled this year. 
Despite Mother Nature’s best attempt at completely ruining the weekend, some events were still able to happen this year, including the Johnny Holmes concert on Saturday night. 
For many community members, there weekend consisted of spending time cleaning up from the aftermath of the early summer storm, including in some cases ripping up water damaged carpeting and throwing away things that were completely ruined from having water in their basements. 
One of the places that experienced some of the most residential damage, was on the Northeast part of Kasson. 
Mayor Chris McKern said that while it's unfortunate, and frustrating for everyone involved, the reality is that due to aging infrastructure and how wet the ground has gotten this year, there isn’t much the City can do. 
McKern did point to an upcoming project however that they are going to be completing to try to fix the problem. A public meeting will be held on July 16 at City Hall to discuss the project. 
Both Kasson and Dodge County Emergency Management are trying to collect information about the impacts of the recent storm, in an attempt to get help lined up from FEMA. 
McKern said that so far only 22 people in Kasson  have submitted their names asking for help, but they are encouraging anyone in Kasson that has problems, even minor ones, to email your name, address, phone number and nature of your concern to: cityadministrator@cityofkasson.com.
Dodge County Emergency Management posted on its Facebook page that  is asking all residents (city and county) that have suffered damage to their home or property from the flooding on June 28th to please contact 507-635-6420. Emergency Management is trying to gather all  of the impacts to potentially request assistance. This again is not a guarantee of assistance but rather a way of gathering an understanding of the big picture.
