Festival in the Park 5K to raise funds for track and field program
Before the fun begins for the day, members of the community will have the chance to run in the Kasson Festival in the Park 5K on Saturday, Aug. 8.
The 5K will take place at the south end of the park by the pool. Registration, start, and finish are all in the same spot.
Day of registration starts at 7:30 a.m. and the half-mile kids run for ages 10 and under begins at 8 a.m. The half-mile kids run is free for all kids.
The 5K, which costs $25 will begin at 8:15 a.m.
Awards and raffle will follow the race. Shirts are guaranteed for anyone who signs up before Aug. 1.
All proceeds for the event will go towards the Kasson-Mantorville track and field program.
“I reached out to the festival committee when I moved to town asking if there was a 5k for the festival because I enjoy running. They said not currently, and then asked if I wanted to organize it moving forward,” said Mitch Noel, co-head coach for the track and field team, and founder and organizer for the run.
For the past three years, he said they have donated the funds to the track and field program.
“While not a big money maker, any funds that can go into the track and field program are of great help,” he said.
