Derrik Matthew Johnson, 30, Byron

Derrik Matthew Johnson, 30, of Byron, died on Thursday, March 18, 2021, at his home in Kasson.
He was born on March 8, 1991 to Kevin and Hollee Johnson. Derrik was a graduate of Byron High School and went on to complete the Building Utilities Mechanic Program (BUM) at RCTC.
Derrik was employed at Scott Berg Construction. He had very strong work ethics and was a hard worker. He absolutely loved being a carpenter and working on homes.
Derrik enjoyed hunting, fishing, racing, and spending time with his friends and family. Born with the same big smile of his dad, Derrik was always seen with a smile on his face. He attended Community Celebration Church in Kasson.
Derrik is survived by his parents, Hollee and Matt Grant of Byron; brothers, Ryan Johnson and Nathan Grant; sister, Alysha Grant; girlfriend, Katje Schultz of Wabasha; grandparents, John and Verna Johnson of Byron, Loah Nelson of Kasson, John and Sherry Grant of Walker, Minn. and Karin and Gordy Carlson of Kasson. He is preceded in death by his father, Kevin Johnson and maternal grandfather, Bob Nelson.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 26, 2021, at Community Celebration Church, 27337 County Highway 34, Kasson, with Pastor Steve Larson officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday, March 25, 2021 from 4 – 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
