Isaac Whiteaker has earned the Eagle Scout award. Isaac began his Boy Scout adventure by joining Tiger Scouts when he was in first grade and his Eagle Court of honor took place on Monday June 11, 2012. For his Eagle service project, Isaac landscaped the vacant lot on Main Street between the C.O. Brown building and Craig’s Cuts.
Kasson City Council members and Mayor Tim Tjosaas threw the first shovels of dirt at the groundbreaking for the 16th Street NE reconstruction and bridge replacement last Monday evening. They are council member Lorraine Hopkins, Mayor Tjosaas and council members Matt Nelson and Mike Marti. Senator Senjem, Representative Quam and other local dignitaries took their turn in throwing a shovel of dirt.

The Rochester Titans, made up of K-M soccer players in the girls U15 age group, placed third at the Lakeville Pan-O-Prog Tournament Saturday and Sunday. The girls defeated the Wausau Wisconsin Force 2-1 in a first round game by scoring the go-ahead goal with a minute to play in the game. In the second round the Titans fell behind 2-0 the first half and then proceeded to score three goals in the final 15 minutes of play to win 3-2 over the Lakeville Flames. Sunday the girls lost to the Bloomington Blue Angels 2-1 to finish the tournament 2-1.
Al Riedel, from the city of Kasson department of public utilities, does rewiring near the west tennis court so that utilities can be run to a storage shed that is being constructed on the back (north side) of Veterans Memorial Park. The tennis court is being removed to make space for more parking at the softball field sites adjacent to the court. There are two newer courts to the east of this one. The tennis court’s usage has declined in recent years while the popularity of adult softball has grown.

Shawn Rebecca Wiegrefe, daughter of Madge Wiegrefe of Mantorville and Gordie Wiegrefe of Nerstrand, Minn., has joined the Mayo Clinic as a laboratory technician. A 1990 graduate of Kasson-Mantorville High School, she received her Associate Degree from Rochester Community College and also her Medical Laboratory Technician certificate from the Mayo School of Health-Related Sciences in 1992.
Phone Home, an automatic dialing device, enables lost children and elderly or people with disabilities to call their homes even if they do not know their numbers, or how to dial. The device will fit into a child’s hand and can be clipped to clothing or a key chain. It is held to the mouthpiece of a telephone and it’s “home” button pressed; that activates the phone company’s tone-dialing system and gets an operator. Phone Home, which uses two alkaline cell batteries, is the invention of Stephen Bethell, president of Nimrod International Sales Inc. in Clarksburg, New Jersey. The device is available in discount and variety stores for $19.95 and can be ordered by calling 1(800)447-5196.

A brunch will be served to all members and their out-of-town guests at the Zumbro Valley Golf and Recreation Club on Tuesday, July 4. The brunch will be served from 11:00 to 1:00 p.m. Following the brunch a “Best Couple Wins” tournament will be played, and is open to all members and out-of-town guests. This tournament is for both men and women. Tee off will be at 1:00 p.m. and there will be no open golf after 12:30 p.m.
A spokesman for the Dodge County Auditor’s Office informed the DCI last week that “senior citizen” fishing licenses may be purchased at the court house in Mantorville. He stated that there appears to be some confusion over where licenses may be obtained as some people have the impression they have to go to St. Paul to make the purchase. To be eligible for this license a person must be at least 70 years of age and a resident of Minnesota.
