Cindy Glazier Outreach for Children Foundation continues to help area children
In April 2019, Ross Glazier lost his wife Cindy to her battle to cancer. The couple lived in the Mantorville area since 2003, and Cindy was well loved within the community.
He knew he wanted to honor his wife’s memory, so soon the Cindy Glazier Outreach for Children Foundation was formed.
“My kids and I wanted to do something that would honor her for years to come,” Glazier said. “We started the Foundation in early 2020 with the intent of helping the people that are in need within our Community and elsewhere.”
In September, the foundation celebrated its fifth annual golf event, a nine-hole event, which helps raise funds for children. “Specifically, we attempt to provide help in the areas of food, clothing, shelter, safety, and health of our children,” Glazier said.
Virtually anything and everything mentioned impacts children.
“We generally have roughly 100 participant golfers each year,” Glazier said. “This has become a very popular event within our community. Once a person participates, they generally want to continue to participate in future years.”
He said many family members, friends, and people from the local community participate. Since starting the fundraiser, over $100,000 has been raised, Glazier said.
“More and more I’m impressed with how much the younger generation enjoys participating in this event,” Glazier said. “There is a great sense of pride in helping others within your community.”
While the driving force behind the organization is to honor his late wife Cindy, he said it's about more than just that.
“Every year I remind people that this event is not about one person. This event is about each of us who have had people in our lives that we’ve loved and lost,” Glazier said. “This is the event that gives us one day each year to honor those who we’ve lost by raising funds to give back to others.”
Glazier said initially the focus was on feeding children in the community, who aren’t able to receive the nutrition that they require on weekends, holidays, and during the summer.
“We attempt to cover the entire annual food costs for those children through the funds that are raised at this event,” Glazier said. “We have done just that. We have a great relationship with the wonderful people at the Food for Friends Organization.”
But the organization doesn’t just stop there, with helping the community, particularly kids.
“The Foundation has more recently made large contributions to the Care and Share Organization of Kasson and Mantorville,” Glazier said. “The ways that that organization is using our Foundation dollars to help our community are exceptional.”
But he said the goal of the foundation isn’t just about raising money. “It is about bringing family, friends, and community together for one day each year in recognition of how lucky that each of us are, and to give back those who need our help in the honor of those that we’ve loved and lost,” Glazier said.
“My personal goal for this Foundation is that it will live on through my family, friends, and community long after I’m gone,” Glazier said.
