Byron voters approve levy requests

Byron voters on Tuesday approved the district’s requests for an operating levy and a capital projects levy.
Vote totals for Question 1 were 1,385 in favor and 1,200 opposed. Totals for Question 2 were 1,328 in favor and 1,256 opposed. Question 2 would not have passed unless Question 1 did.
The vote gives the district a $700 per pupil for operations and a technology levy that will generate $250,000 in annual revenue. The term for both levies is 10 years.
According to the school board, the operating levy will allow the district to continue to offer a broad range of academic and co-curricular programs; attract and retain high-quality and experienced teachers and staff; and support classrooms.
The technology dollars are designated for classroom technology, cyber security, and school safety improvements.

Heidt elected to KM School Board

Beginning in January, Denise Heidt will be the newest member of the Kasson-Mantorville School Board. Heidt won Tuesday’s special election, Superintendent Beth Giese said. The unofficial tallies were not available at the time of this story’s print deadline.

Four candidates ran to replace Amy Olson, who resigned in February, shortly after winning re-election last year.

“I want to extend my sincere thanks to everyone who supported me and came out to vote,” Heidt told the DCI on Tuesday night. “It’s an honor to have the opportunity to serve our community and to work on behalf of our students, teachers, and families.”
